SPRINGFIELD – Illinois schools are getting more bad news from the state capitol.
Illinois State Superintendent Christopher Koch [cook] says in addition to lay-offs and a cut in general state aid, schools may not get all of their special education or bus money.
The mandated categoricals are threatened because of Illinois’ budget woes. Koch says he can’t promise anyone anything.
State Representative Dan Brady from Bloomington says his local school leaders would rather have special-ed and transportation money than more per-student cash.

Koch said early childhood education grants also face a questionable future. And he says that’s based on a budget without cuts. Koch says cuts during these last three months of school or Governor Quinn’s billion-plus cuts next year will only make the problems worse.
