SPRINGFIELD – Lawmakers in Springfield are touting changes for McCormick place as the spark that could jump start one of Illinois’ biggest economic engines.
Both the Illinois House and Senate have approved sweeping changes for McCormick Place and Navy Pier. Those changes will give trade shows new freedoms, and some lower costs. But the unions that work at McPier will give-up some work.
Suburban Republican Kirk Dillard says that’s the way it has to be.

Other lawmakers say a healthy McPier is good for all of Illinois. The state says McCormick Place and Navy Pier have a billion dollar plus impact on Illinois. Governor Pat Quinn’s office says he’s reviewing the proposal.
