SPRINGFIELD – Illinois has a new data website that could soon have a lot of information, or lead to a new smart phone app. But for now, data.Illinois.gov, has a lot of numbers and little else.
Kayce Ataiyero with Governor Quinn's office says right now data from four state agencies, I-DOT, the Department of Revenue, the Department of Commerce and economic Opportunity, and the Illinois EPA is available. She hopes for more by the end of the summer. And Ataiyero hopes for some really smart people to take advantage of the data.

But David Morrison with the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform says there is a difference between free information and open government.

The website cost the state $33,395 and was built by a Seattle company that also built data sites for the federal government and the city of Chicago.
