SPRINGFIELD — In four days this week, the Illinois General Assembly was able to push through legislation that has typically been a lightening rod for controversy.
Civil unions and new police and firefighters pension reform are now waiting for Gov. Pat Quinn’s approval. A major gaming expansion was approved by the Illinois Senate, and a long-languishing plan for a new coal plant got Illinois House of Representatives approval.
